LISTEN
NIGHTCONCERT
RELEASED JULY 13, 2018
This midnight recording of pianist Erroll Garner and his trio (Eddie Calhoun on bass and Kelly Martin on drums) was captured live at Concertgebouw on November 7, 1964. The material was mixed and mastered from new transfers of the original 3-track analog tapes found in Garner’s personal archive. We are delighted to be working with the same team of engineers who helped bring 2016’s Ready Take One to life. These songs have never been released in the United States on any format.
READY TAKE ONE
RELEASED SEPT 30, 2016
Ready Take One emerged from the discovery of a group of master session reels from 1967, 1969 and 1971. The recordings include some of the most adventurous and inventive playing ever heard from Erroll Garner. As we listened, it became clear that there was an entire world of undiscovered Erroll Garner music waiting to be shared with listeners. Martha Glaser’s constant refrain between recordings of, “Ready, take one,” became something of a mantra as we sifted through these tapes. It was only fitting that those words serve as the record’s title. Her sparse, even cryptic, session notes—“Untitled, to be monitored to see which are useful and usable”— read like pieces of a treasure map leading us to the discovery of one new Garner composition after another. The selections include six new Garner compositions, seven fresh takes on jazz and pop standards, and an unforgettable version of Garner’s beloved classic, Misty. Until now, none of the recordings on this album have ever been heard by the public.
